The 3rd seeded Italian duo of Gabriele Bosio and Riccardo Perin won the gold medal in the boys’ doubles tennis. The Italians defeated the 5th seeded Israeli duo of Roi Ginat and Yshai Oliel 7:6 2:6 6:3 in a very close match. The first set was extremely close. The Bosio and Perin duo managed to win only in a tie-break. The second set was convincingly won by the duo from Israel, losing only two games to their opponents. The third – the longest and decisive – set turned out to be crucial due to the Italians’ break point, ending with their victory. “We were expecting this victory, though it was not easy. It is very important for us that at our age we win at the Youth Olympic Festival, and go back to our homeland with the gold medal” – Perin said. On the first court the Polish duo of Dudek and Michalski lost to the Czech duo of Evzen Holis and Toma Michac 6:3 3:6 7:5; consequently the Czech tennis players earned the bronze medal. “I think Mziuri’s court was up to the high standards of the Olympic festival’s tennis tournament. It is unfortunate we could not see the Georgians in the finals, but we are glad for such a strong generation in tennis. This Olympic festival was actually the step to the future” – Tennis’ federation President Aka Metreveli declared. Gallery |
