With a special and unplanned trip, COCOM chairman Jozef Liba and EYOF manager Katerina Nycova, visited Tbilisi. In the frame of a one day visit, they held a meeting with Prime Minister, Irakli Garibashvili, and inspected those sport venues, which will host the Olympic Festival from 26 July - 1 August. At the end of the day, members of COCOM evaluated the current state of matter for journalists. COCOM chairman, Jozef Liba: "This is an extraordinary visit, since we did not plan it. But in Baku, where we were for the European Games, we heard rumors that Tbilisi was under water. We arrived yesterday and we are convinced that, your government and citizens are mobilized and renovation works are underway. We met with the prime minister, who assured us and pronounced his utmost support. It is joyful that, the new sport palace will be constructed on time, where the Handball competitions will take place. We are returning to Baku with a calm heart, since in a several weeks we will be back for the Festival in Tbilisi." EYOF manager, Katerina Nycova: "The organizing committee is facing a difficult mission, since there is only a little bit of time left. However, they feel the support of each person, the support of the media. I will only add one thing, "Tbilisi 2015" has a wonderful team! I will remind you that, the European Youth Olympic Festival will be hosted by Tbilisi from 26 July - 2 August." Chair of "Tbilisi 2015" OC, Aleksi Akhvlediani: "This is not a planned meeting....the natural disaster on 13 of June caused huge concerns in different European countries, this is why the decision was made by the European Olympic Committee president, Patrick Hickey, to send members of the Coordination Commission to Tbilisi. They inspected all venues and are convinced that, nothing will hinder the Olympic Festival. This exam was passed by our constructors. As you know, the Tennis courts are located at the main zone of the occurrence of the natural disaster. Currently, all sport venues are practically completed, the security system is being implemented." |
